EGYPT - Profile - Ibrahim Saleh.A long-serving executive in the petroleum sector, Saleh became chairman of EGPC in August 2001, succeeding Mohammed Tawila who was then elected as chairman of the new ENGHC. Until then Saleh was a deputy chairman of EGPC. Saleh is a prominent petroleum engineer. Until 2000, he was chairman of the Gulf of Suez Petroleum Co. (GUPCO), which is a 50-50 oil and gas producing venture between EGPC and BP. GUPCO is the biggest oil producer in Egypt. It is the second gas producer in the country, next to Petrobel (a 50-50 JV of EGPC and Agip of Italy). |
