ATLANTA -- EGT, delivering the world's best digital video experience, today unveiled that HEMi (Head End Micro), a low-cost, high-density edge encoding solution for off-site insertion of local channels, is available for customers to purchase as part of their digital simulcast rollout in residential communities. The HEMi has a unique design that includes encoding, multiplexing, modulating and upconverting all-in-one cost-effective unit. The HEMi will be on display at the EGT booth, number 492 at the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo in Denver, June 21 - 23, 2006.

Another first in the cable industry, EGT built HEMi to perform a key function in digital simulcast and all-digital networks by enabling cable operators to cost-effectively convert local analog channels to digital. The HEMi provides an integrated and scalable solution that encodes, multiplexes, modulates and converts up to nine community channels, such as security cameras, community programming or events calendars. With an extensive background in digital simulcast, EGT is working with its customers to meet the service needs of local communities while providing the strategic benefits of digital programming.

Features For Local Channels

HEMi is a ruggedly designed edge encoding solution designed specifically for edge encoding applications. By creating a product with simple start-up procedures and a lockable front panel that limits access, EGT has anticipated and designed for the edge encoding requirements. In support of digital conversion, HEMi encodes the local program, multiplexes the signals to form a new Multi-Program Transport Stream (MPTS), modulates and up-converts the MTPS to be re-inserted back into the RF cable spectrum, sending the local channels throughout the community. Like all EGT products, HEMi is designed to be flexible and modular, meeting today's needs with the ability to add new applications in the future.
