"The Splash G640 is the ultimate solution for printing color critical proofs and high-quality short runs. Its innovative color technology and exceptional print quality, combined with Mac OS X and Xerox's DocuColor 12 printers, make the Splash G640 the benchmark color server for graphic arts professionals," said Fred Rosenzweig, president and COO, EFI. "EFI is proud to partner with Xerox to provide the only Mac-based color server on the market."

Preemptive multitasking creates a time-shared environment in which running programs get a recurring slice of time from the CPU. Depending on the operating system, the time slice may be the same for all programs or it may be adjustable to meet the current mix of programs and users. For example, background programs can be given more CPU time no matter how heavy the foreground load and vice versa., for creative professionals to run the smoothest publishing workflows," said Ron Okamoto, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. "The Splash G640 leverages the advanced graphics capabilities of Mac OS X to provide ease-of-use, fast processing, and accurate color."

Graphic arts professionals already familiar with Mac-based solutions will quickly integrate the Splash G640 into their daily workflow without the need to learn new software applications, teach operators new work processes or re-train customers how to submit jobs. The Splash G640 is also compatible with popular graphic arts applications such as QuarkXPress, Adobe PhotoShop, InDesign and Illustrator.
