Toshiba and Electronics For Imaging, Inc. (EFI) (Nasdaq:EFII), the world leader in enabling networked printing solutions, introduced today at Seybold 2000 a Fiery(R) Z4(TM) server for Toshiba's FC15 full-color digital copier/printer.

The latest Fiery server technology currently on the market, the Z4 controller enhances the value, high-speed performance, and color management capabilities of the FC15. The Z4 has been available with Toshiba's FC22 model since January.

Designed to meet the needs of graphic arts, corporate and print-for-pay environments requiring a connected color copier, printer and scanner, the FC15 Z4 operates at 18 printed color pages per minute (ppm) and 15 color copies per minute (cpm). With a list price of $19,995, the FC15 prints at a resolution of 600 x 600 dots per inch (dpi). The Z4 controller is priced at $17,995.

The Z4 controller offers Adobe's PostScript 3, which provides smooth shading, support for 136 fonts, and integration with Adobe PDF. The Z4 also includes EFI's NetWise(TM) 2 software for seamless, multi-platform integration, and simplified installation.

A major contributor to the speed and quality of the new controller is the custom engine interface card with EFI proprietary ASICs including EFI's ECT(TM) compression ratios and visually lossless image quality. As with all Fiery servers, the Z4 offers standard 10/100 BaseT connectivity, with Token Ring as an option, and supports Windows 95/98, NT, and 2000, and Mac OS.

The FC15 Z4 is available through Toshiba's nationwide dealer network; Government, Education and Major (GEM) Accounts Program; and international channels.

Z4 for the FC15 Offers Powerful Software

The Z4 controller for the FC15 includes EFI's powerful suite of software utilities and technologies. Command WorkStation(TM), a standard utility in the Z4's user software, acts as a central point for managing, editing and finishing jobs and is ideal for corporate workgroups or creative professionals. Consistent, accurate color is assured with ColorWise(R) 2, EFI's color management system that is compatible with industry-standard ICC and custom profiles and simulations. The Fiery FreeForm(TM) application provides variable data printing capabilities that are easy to use, yet powerful and flexible enough to work with any application. The industry's first in-RIP imposition system can be found in the DocBuilder Pro(TM) application, offering true flexibility for workflow needs by enabling job preview, merging, editing and imposition before a document is RIPped.

The new Fiery Driver(TM) interface was designed by EFI to simplify the printing process. Fiery Driver offers shortcuts to common settings, provides visual document feedback, and enhances control for Windows users. The Fiery Link(TM) utility provides users with information on print job status. From their desktops, users can monitor the status of any print job, its position in the queue, as well as general information on the Fiery and paper and toner levels.
