The Guide was produced as a result of requests from EEMA Members for the e-Business association to clearly outline ways in which users and administrators can make the most effective use of secure e-mail services See Internet e-mail service.  to protect both information assets and intra/inter business communications.

Divided into three sections, the report investigates the area of secure email in a number of ways. Section one will be of interest to technical personnel wishing to remind themselves of the basics of PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) A framework for creating a secure method for exchanging information based on public key cryptography. The foundation of a PKI is the certificate authority (CA), which issues digital certificates that authenticate the identity of  and encryption. Section two is aimed at business IT operations personnel, and elaborates on the detailed requirements and overheads of a secure e-mail infrastructure, and section 3 takes a practical look at the operation of a secure e-mail facility, from the perspective of the email user. www.eema.org
