EDWIN J. HESS ELECTED SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT OF EXXON CORPORATION

 IRVING, Texas, Dec. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Exxon Corporation (NYSE: XON) announced today the election of Edwin J. Hess as a senior vice president of the corporation, effective Jan. 1, 1993.
 The company also announced that Donald K. McIvor would retire as a director and senior vice president on Dec. 31, 1992, after 42 years of service and more than 7 years on the board.
 Mr. Hess is currently vice president, environment and safety, as well as executive assistant to the president of Exxon Corporation. He assumed that position in January 1990 and has had responsibility for developing, reviewing and coordinating Exxon's worldwide environmental and safety plans.
 A native of Newark, N.J., Mr. Hess joined Exxon USA, the corporation's chief domestic affiliate, in 1957 after receiving a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology and an MBA from Harvard.
 He held various technical and executive positions in the United States. In 1985, he was named executive vice president of Exxon's worldwide supply and transportation organization. In 1986 he was appointed vice president for petroleum products for the newly formed Exxon Company, International.
 Mr. Hess was named senior vice president of marketing, refining and planning for Exxon Company, International in 1988.
 Mr. McIvor was elected a director and senior vice president of Exxon in May 1985. Prior to his election he had spent most of his career with Imperial Oil, Ltd., a Canadian company in which Exxon holds a 70 percent interest.
 A native of Winnipeg, Canada, he received a bachelor of science degree in geology from the University of Manitoba in 1950 and began work with Imperial that same year.
 In 1977 he was named a vice president of Exxon Corporation with responsibility for exploration and production. In July 1981, Mr. McIvor returned to Imperial as deputy chairman and a director. He assumed the position of chairman and chief executive officer of Imperial in January 1982 and continued in that capacity until he was elected to the Exxon board.
