EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE Edwards Air Force Base, U.S. military installation, 301,000 acres (121,805 hectares), S Calif., NE of Lancaster; est. 1933. It is one of the largest air force bases in the United States and has the world's longest runway.  - An Edwards Air Force Base employee who died after his pickup truck crashed into a parked water tank truck was killed by heart disease rather than the crash, officials said Thursday.

Rice's Dodge truck ran into a water truck parked for a construction project on Rosamond Boulevard on the base, officials said. Rice was taken to Antelope Valley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
