EDUCATOR ON LEAVE AFTER HEART SURGERY.Byline: Karen Maeshiro Staff Writer LANCASTER - Westside Union School District Superintendent John Costello is on medical leave after undergoing double heart bypass surgery, trustees said. Costello is recovering at his home in Santa Clarita after the operation about 10 days ago at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center Providence Holy Cross Medical Center is a hospital in Mission Hills, California, USA. The hospital has 254 beds, and is part of Providence Health & Services. History in Mission Hills, trustees said. ``The prognosis is good. He's home. He should be back to work within a month,'' board member Gwen Farrell said. Regina Rossall, assistant superintendent of educational services, will lead the district in his absence, Farrell said. Farrell said Costello was having problems with his heart and was originally going to undergo angioplasty, but doctors recommended the more invasive bypass surgery instead. Costello, a 35-year educator, was hired as superintendent in June 2002 to replace retiring Superintendent Allan Sacks. Before that he served as deputy superintendent and assistant superintendent of business services at school districts in Los Angeles, Orange and Riverside counties.
