 announces EmPowering Scholarship

Michael Smucker of Junction City High School has been awarded a $500 EmPowering Scholarship from the Emerald People's Utility District. Recipients are EPUD customers who plan to attend Lane Community College in the fall.

Marist graduate wins Wells Fargo scholarship

Heidi Hoffman of Eugene has received a $1,000 scholarship from the Wells Fargo Team Members' Dependent Children Scholarship Program. A graduate of Marist High School, she plans to major in business at the University of Notre Dame.

Creswell student gets poem published

"Circumstance," a poem by Victoria DeLeon of Creswell, will be published in "Theatre of the Mind," a volume of poetry to be published by Noble House Inc. DeLeon is a 15-year-old student at Creswell High School.

Teen court participant wins scholarship

Anna Freedman, a graduate of South Eugene High School South Eugene High School is a public high school located in Eugene, Oregon, United States. It was founded as Eugene High School around 1900, and was located at Willamette Street and West 11th Avenue in a brick building that later served as Eugene's city hall. , has received a St. Olaf College An average of six St. Olaf students are awarded the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship each year. Additionally, the college has produced three Rhodes Scholars since 1977.

 Service Leadership Scholarship. The $3,000 award is presented to incoming students who have been active in the Lutheran Church, their communities or particular service projects.

Freedman is a founding member of the West Eugene Teen Court and has contributed more than 400 hours to the court since 1999.

The scholarship is renewable for each year a student attends St. Olaf, a residential college in Northfield, Minn.

Sheldon graduate wins grant, two scholarships

Christopher Pelow has been awarded a $12,800 Linfield College Competitive Scholarship and a $32,000 Ford Family Foundation Scholarship. The Sheldon High School Sheldon High School may refer to:

  • Sheldon High School (Missouri)
  • Sheldon High School (Sacramento, California)
  • Sheldon High School Summer Theatre, Sheldon, Iowa
 graduate also received a $10,500-per-year Linfield grant.

Pelow plans to major in health and human performance at Linfield College.

Five area graduates win Konnie scholarships

In 1868 it was designated Oregon's land-grant agricultural college and was taken over completely by the state in 1885. ; and Hailey Sherritt-Morgan, who will major in chemistry, also at Oregon State University.

Jeanna Eastburn, Triangle Lake High School, will study premedicine at Eastern Oregon University Eastern Oregon University (or "EOU") is one of seven state-funded, four-year universities of higher education in the State of Oregon and belongs to the Oregon University System. .

Students from Elmira, Crow and Triangle Lake high schools are eligible for the awards.

Aquarium offers workshop for elementary educators

Elementary school teachers interested in expanding their knowledge of the marine sciences are invited to attend a summer workshop at the Oregon Coast Aquarium Coordinates:

The Oregon Coast Aquarium is an aquarium in Newport, Oregon.
. The Teaching Educators About Marine Science (TEAMS): Marine Ecosystems training will be held from July 27 to Aug. 1.

The program is designed to provide a knowledge base about the complex relationship between habitat and adaptation. Participants will attend lectures, take field trips and participate in structured activities centered on wetlands, sandy shores, rocky shores, the deep sea and the open ocean.

Tuition cost for the workshop will be waived because of a grant received from Trust Management Services, LLC. For a fee, graduate credits are available through Western Oregon University History

Originally established in 1856 by Oregon pioneers as "Monmouth University", a private college, and later merged with another private institution (Bethel College near Rickreall) to become "Christian College.
. Oregon Professional Development Units and Washington State Clock Hours also are available.

OASIS Tutoring Program expands to Junction City

The OASIS Tutoring Program, which pairs adult volunteer tutors age 50 or older with first- through third-grade students, is expanding to include schools in Junction City and Harrisburg.

Six "tutor coffees" will be held in August and September to introduce potential tutors to the Learning Experience Approach used by the OASIS program.

Meetings will be held Aug. 12, 10:30 a.m.; Aug. 21, 1 p.m.; Sept. 4, 11 a.m.; Sept. 10, 1 p.m.; Sept. 11, 2 p.m.; and Sept. 17, 2 p.m. Register by calling 342-6611, Ext. 2601, or by e-mail at eschmidt@peacehealth.org.
