Computer, paper/pencil tests judged comparable

A study of Oregon's computer-based and conventional paper-and-pencil tests found that the two are comparable, the Oregon Department of Education The Department of Education of the U.S. state of Oregon is responsible for implementation of state policies with respect to public education at the kindergarten through community college level, including academic standards and testing, credentials, and other matters not reserved to  announced last week.

The findings should ease concerns among school districts, which were unexpectedly required to abandon TESA for paper-pencil tests after the state and its TESA contractor severed ties over a billing dispute.

The new comparability study was required as part of the state's peer review process.

The U.S. Department of Education uses peer reviews, involving experts in the fields of standards and assessments, to determine whether states have met the testing requirements under the No Child Left Behind law.

Kelly Middle School

misses national award

After being named a semifinalist earlier this spring, Eugene's Kelly Middle School learned last week that it lost out on a National School Change Award.

The award is given to six schools in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  with impressive turnaround stories.

Kelly, which has seen substantial gains in student achievement and behavior in recent years, was the only Oregon school in the running.

 nominated the school for the national award three years ago, but it was not successful.

Fordham College for men and Thomas More College for women merged in 1974. , had encouraged Kelly administrators to try for the award again this year.
