, 17, of Cottage Grove, won an honorable mention in a national essay contest put on by the Campaign for Children's Health Care The Campaign for Children's Health Care is an American issue advocacy campaign dedicated to making high-quality, affordable health insurance coverage for all of America's children a top national priority. , an initiative led by a diverse group of national organizations to raise public awareness about the plight of children who lack health care coverage. Titled "When an Apple a Day Isn't Enough," the contest asked entrants to give all the reasons they believe that ready access to health care can affect their lives and the lives of those around them.

A team from Junction City High School was selected to participate and placed fifth of five teams in the annual High School We the People: The Citizen & the Constitution state finals competition, held Jan. 19 at the Hatfield Federal Courthouse in Portland. Teams participated in hearings, and the team that performed the best will represent Oregon in the nation's capital in April in the national finals. Panels grilled grill
