EDUCATION ALTERNATIVES SIGNS FIVE-YEAR CONTRACT WITH BALTIMORE CITY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL, BALTIMORE

MINNEAPOLIS, Nov. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Education Alternatives, Inc. (NASDAQ: EAIN) announced today that it has signed a five-year contract to provide management services for Baltimore City College High School, Baltimore. Under the terms of the agreement, EAI will recieve the district's average full-time equivalent (FTE) amount of $5,918 per student times the actual enrollment of the school which, on Sept. 30, 1993, was 1,098 students. Management services will begin upon the review and adoption of this agreement by Baltimore's Board of Estimates.
Baltimore City College High School, a city-wide college preparatory school, is the third oldest high school in the United States. Students must apply for admission. The school is also one of 30 schools in Baltimore City to be designated "enterprise schools."
Enterprise schools are schools in which administrators have volunteered to be part of an initiative for site-based management recently begun in the Baltimore City School District. Administrators of these schools have the authority to manage their own educational programs, financial resources, and physical facilities. They also have the ability to contract out for these services as the Baltimore City College High School has done with EAI.
John Golle, CEO and chairman of Education Alternatives, said, "We are both pleased and proud to be chosen to work with Baltimore City College High School's school improvement team. Our combined goal is nothing short of making this school the preeminent high school in America."
EAI provides private management of public schools and sells proprietary products and consulting services to public and private schools. The company currently manages or provides consulting services to 14 schools under various management contracts, with a total enrollment exceeding 7,700 students.
