EDUCATION ALTERNATIVES ANNOUNCES WITHDRAWAL OF PROPOSAL

MINNEAPOLIS, April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Education Alternatives, Inc. (NASDAQ: EAIN) has announced that it has withdrawn its proposal to manage 14 Palm Beach County (Florida) public schools. The proposal, submitted by the Alliance for Schools That Work (Education Alternatives, Inc.; Johnson Controls World Services Inc.; and KPMG Peat Marwick), was withdrawn in conjunction with a plan submitted by the Palm Beach Economic Council to the Palm Beach County School Board. The new plan would establish a committee comprised of representatives of the Palm Beach County schools and community organizations to review the concept of public and private partnerships for the education of students in Palm Beach County.
The plan outlined by the Palm Beach Economic Council is intended to culminate in a competitive bidding process to be held in the next school year. Education Alternatives will continue to communicate with representatives of schools in Palm Beach County who have expressed an interest in its services. The company may also elect to participate in next year's proposed competitive bidding process.
Education Alternatives, Inc. provides private management of public schools and consulting services to public and private schools.
