EDSON NAMED AMERITECH VP FOR BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

 CHICAGO, March 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Gary R. Edson is named Ameritech vice president for business development, reporting to Louis J. Rutigliano, Ameritech vice chairman. The appointment is effective April 1.
 In this newly-created position, Edson will plan and implement Ameritech's program of interactive video services. He will direct a multi-discipline work team to develop and manage the company's market entry plan.
 "We're pleased to have Gary on the Ameritech team," Rutigliano said. "He brings rich and diverse planning experience that will help us as we enter some new markets."
 From 1989 to 1993, Edson worked for the Office of the United States Trade Representative, first as chief of staff and counsel, then as general counsel. Edson was vice president of Equity Group Investments, Inc. from 1985 to 1989. He was special assistant to the deputy secretary of state, U.S. Department of State from 1982 to 1985.
 Edson, 37, received J.D. and M.B.A. degrees from the University of Chicago. He is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Stanford University, from which he received a bachelor of arts degree in anthropology.
