EDO's contract includes development work to upgrade certain components of the aircraft's Electronic Support Measures suite. By replacing aging ESM equipment, the upgrade is intended to improve reliability and intelligence gathering capability, as well as reduce weight. Specifically, Phase II will provide modifications to the SP-160 processor to provide added functionality and allow replacement for a portion of the AN/ALR-81 countermeasures receiving system.
