EDO Receives $17.7 Million Contract for F/A-22 Aircraft Armament System.

NEW YORK -- EDO Corporation (NYSE: EDO) has been awarded a contract from Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company (NYSE: LMT) for continued production of its LAU-142/A AMRAAM Vertical Ejection Launcher, or AVEL, for the F/A-22 Raptor.

This latest order, at a value not to exceed a $17.7 million, covers production of up to 24 Lot-Five aircraft. Production Lot Five will bring the total number of F/A-22 aircraft to 107, all of which are equipped with the AVEL.

EDO's breakthrough design has solved the engineering challenges of launching missiles at supersonic speed, at the proper trajectory, in a fraction of a second, from an internal weapons bay. Also, unlike conventional missile launchers, the AVEL requires no explosive pyrotechnic cartridges, thereby reducing logistics support and maintenance expense.
