EDITORIAL WRONG PRIORITIES.

KB Homes and Marriott International are highly profitable, well-run companies that know a good deal when they see one.

That's why they love Los Angeles City Hall's giveaway of $300 million in subsidies to build luxury hotel rooms and condominiums as part of the massive entertainment complex under construction near Staples Center and the Los Angeles Convention Center.

While other companies held out for even more, these firms know that after all the billions in public money poured into downtown, this is a can't-miss deal.

Thanks to this public-financing deal brokered by the city's leaders, Los Angeles is helping corporate fat cats make even fatter profits -- even as it slugs the middle class with higher fees and other charges, but can't afford to fix streets or trim trees.
