Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa Antonio Ramon Villaraigosa (born Antonio (Tony) Ramon Villar, Jr. on January 23, 1953) is the mayor of Los Angeles, California. He is the first Latino mayor of Los Angeles since Cristobal Aguilar in 1872.  targets employee bonuses to balance the budget, which has skyrocketed despite poor service.

Sacrificial lambs A sacrificial lamb is a lamb (or metaphorical parallel) killed or discounted in some way (as in a sacrifice) in order to further some other cause. In typical modern usage, it is a metaphorical reference for a person who has no chance of surviving the challenge ahead, but is placed  

Los Angeles Unified School District The Los Angeles Unified School District (the "LAUSD") is the largest (in terms of number of students) public school system in California and the second-largest in the United States. Only the New York City Department of Education has a larger student population.  officials seem awfully willing to sacrifice a lot of education benefits for the sake of building Eli Broad's dream school on the edge of downtown.

Government efficiency

Kudos to county leaders, who have proved that government efficiency need not be an oxymoron, and it's far better than raising taxes.

Our tangled web

We rightly expect better from the people who would lead us. But perhaps we should also expect a little better from ourselves.
