A roundup of some of our more important editorials this past week:

Double jeopardy double jeopardy n. placing someone on trial a second time for an offense for which he/she has been previously acquitted, even when new incriminating evidence has been unearthed. This is specifically prohibited by the Fifth Amendment to the U. S. Constitution, which states: "...nor shall any person be subject for the same offence [sic] to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb... 

City Council President Alex Padilla wants to use taxpayer money to kill a project heavily financed with taxpayer money. Clearly, City Hall has scarcely a clue, let alone a coherent plan, for L.A's long-term housing needs.

Budget treachery

Remember when state leaders pitched tax hikes as the price for sustained funding to cities and towns? Well, they've changed their minds. Now they offer tax hikes without adequate local funding. Some deal!

Building priorities

Officials at the Los Angeles Unified School District seem to be so fixated on building new schools that they've lost all sight of why they set out to build them in the first place.

Stop the giveaways

Somehow, city employees seem to be the only people in all of L.A. who are immune to the recession, the tight budget and impending cuts from Sacramento.
