EDITORIAL TO THE DOGS ANTONOVICH'S PET-INSURANCE PLAN IS A HOWLER.

LAVISHING great perks and fringe benefits fringe benefits,
n.pl the benefits, other than wages or salary, provided by an employer for employees (e.g., health insurance, vacation time, disability income).
on public employees has long been the norm in Los Angeles, but county Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich Michael Dennis Antonovich (born 1939 in Los Angeles, California) is a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors representing the Fifth District, which covers northern Los Angeles County, the Antelope, Santa Clarita, Pasadena, and parts of the San Fernando and San  wants to extend the generosity to a whole new class of recipients - public employees' pets.

An avowed a·vow
tr.v. a·vowed, a·vow·ing, a·vows
1. To acknowledge openly, boldly, and unashamedly; confess: avow guilt. See Synonyms at acknowledge.

2. To state positively.
animal lover, Antonovich has proposed that the county conduct a study to see whether its workers could get a group insurance program for their dogs, cats and other beloved critters.

This is - pardon the expression Pardon The Expression! was an ITV sitcom that ran from 2 June 1965 to 27 June 1966. The sitcom was the only spin-off from the highly popular soap opera Coronation Street – not counting The Brothers McGregor  - fuzzy logic fuzzy logic, a multivalued (as opposed to binary) logic developed to deal with imprecise or vague data. Classical logic holds that everything can be expressed in binary terms: 0 or 1, black or white, yes or no; in terms of Boolean algebra, everything is in one set or  at its worst.

While Antonovich insists the insurance wouldn't actually cost taxpayers any money, studying it and soliciting contracts certainly would.

Now, nobody likes to see county employees' pooches and pussycats go without treatment. But at a time when many humans lack health insurance, and in a county where public clinics have fallen to the fiscal ax, it seems decadent to prioritize health plans for deputies' dachshunds, firefighters' ferrets and bureaucrats' bunny rabbits.

Somebody needs to tell Antonovich that this dog of an idea won't hunt; best put it out of its misery.
