CAL State Northridge's new plan for its athletics department is remarkable in its vision and its modesty.
In the past, the campus has sometimes gotten ahead of itself Ahead of itself In context of general equities, refers to equities that are overbought or oversold on a fundamental basis., with dreams of being an athletic powerhouse. The new plan, however, places the focus where it belongs - on student well-being, not sports glory. Its centerpiece is a much-needed student recreation center that could also include a new basketball arena, but only if funding permits it.
Which is as it should be. A decent home for the Matadors would be great. But providing for the entire student body is a far more logical and sensible priority.
