EDITORIAL TASTE THE SUNSHINE VALLEY WOULD LOVE TO SHARE TOILET WATER WITH THE WESTSIDE.

IT'S easy to understand how a little thing like drinking and bathing in recycled potty water didn't register with Mayor Richard Riordan Richard J. Riordan (born May 1, 1930) is a Republican politician from California, U.S. who served as the California Secretary of Education from 2003–2005 and as Mayor of Los Angeles from 1993–2001. Riordan ran for Governor of California unsuccessfully in 2002. .

After all, he lives in Brentwood. It won't affect him or his neighborhood.

It's not called the Brentwood Water Reclamation Project, or the Downtown Water Reclamation Project, or the Bel-Air Water Reclamation Project.

No. It's called the East San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley

the conscious of those guilt-ridden by L.A.'s theft of Owens Valley water nearly a century ago, then the ``toilet-to-tap'' program might be used more widely.

But you can bet the last dollar government tries to squeeze out of you that it never, ever, will it end up in Bel-Air, Pacific Palisades Palisades, cliffs along the west bank of the Hudson River, NE N.J. and SE N.Y., extending from N of Jersey City, N.J., to the vicinity of Piermont, N.Y., with a general altitude of from 350 ft to 550 ft (107–168 m).  or Brentwood. Just like they got Santa Monica Mountain garbage dumps closed and Sunshine Canyon Landfill in Granada Hills reopened, the political heavies of the Westside have no intention of drinking the same water as the rest of us.

When the Daily News reported in April that the little-known recycling project was about to start pumping treated sewage into the ground as part of a five-year recycling process, Valley residents were outraged.

But that outrage never registered with the mayor, who thinks the Valley just wants its trees trimmed on time.

So, Mr. Mayor, here's our deal for you and your Brentwood neighbor, Councilwoman Cindy Miscikowski, whose district includes parts of the Valley: Charge us a Valley-only tax to pay for the cost of pumping our toilet water to the Westside if they'll vote to drink it and bath in it.

Heck, the Valley will pay extra to have it bottled with a cute little label: Taste the Sunshine.

What a deal for the entire city. It ensures a water supply for years to come by letting recycled water's principal backers, Riordan and DWP General Manager S. David Freeman S. He currently heads The Hydrogen Car Company and is a member of the Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners. , who don't understand what all the fuss is about, and their neighbors have first crack at safe, clean, 100 percent state-certified, refreshing potty water.

Bottoms up!
