`I know how to ride a bull,'' says David Brewer This article is about the businessman and Lord Mayor of London; for the American jurist, see David Josiah Brewer

Sir David Brewer CMG (born 1940) was Lord Mayor of London between 2005 and 2006.
III. And while that might not sound like an obvious qualification for running the second- largest school district in America, apparently it is.

``I'm going to bring out a whip,'' the new superintendent says of his plans for the LAUSD LAUSD Los Angeles Unified School District (Los Angeles, CA)  bureaucracy. That is good; he'll need it.

Romer (born October 31, 1928 in Garden City, Kansas, United States) was the 39th governor of Colorado and served as the superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District from 2001 to 2006.  did a fine job erecting new schools, he was never able to get control of the Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  Unified School District's bureaucratic corps. But Brewer is confident he can do the job. With his military background, he knows a thing or two about unwieldy government organizations.

``We're going to tame the beast,'' he says, ``and the only way to do that is to change the culture.''

That sounds about right. It won't be easy, but Brewer's starting the job with the right attitude.
