IN a sense, machines really are taking over. Or, at least, the television sets are.

 now has a larger population of TV sets than actual viewers. There is an average of 2.73 sets and 2.55 persons per American home. That doesn't even take into account the television sets in the workplace, the grocery checkout line, buses and airplanes.

This simple fact speaks volumes about Americans, from our economic stability that allows luxuries such as a TV set in every room, to our reliance on the boob tube.
