EDITORIAL NONE OF THE ABOVE.

READERS will note that there are several elections for which we have offered no endorsements. Allow us to explain.

In California, legislative Republicans and Democrats conspired to gerrymander gerrymander (jĕr`ēmăn'dər, gĕr–), in politics, rearrangement of voting districts so as to favor the party in power. The objective is to create as many districts as possible in areas of known support and to concentrate the opposition's strength into as few districts as possible. Assembly and Senate districts so that virtually all are ``safe.'' Depending on the local population, one party is all but guaranteed victory.

We won't dignify this sham process with our endorsements. Instead, we urge readers to vote yes on Proposition 62 and no on Proposition 60, the combined effect of which would be open primaries and a real choice in legislative races.

In the race for U.S. Senate, incumbent Democrat Barbara Boxer differs substantially from our fundamental views while Republican Bill Jones has done nothing to mount a credible challenge. We decline to endorse either, for the same reason we're sitting out the legislative races - the outcome is predetermined.
