We suppose we shouldn't complain. After all, at least while they're off schmoozing at some conference or hitting the links they aren't further mucking up the city.

But it's not like there aren't enough pressing city needs that could keep them busy. If they would take some time away from their busy vacation schedules, maybe they could get around to finding ways to get the city to pave more of L.A.'s crater-pocked streets, fix its crumbling sidewalks, hire some more cops and firefighters, and get their constituents better services while eliminating waste and inefficiency.

Instead of taking life easy, the City Council - especially its ``new breed'' members - should get to work on the people's business.

The vacation needs to end, folks.
