EDITORIAL HONORING CHAVEZ.

If Cesar Chavez were still among the living, he would no doubt be proud. The labor leader, who is honored today for his efforts to make life better for migrants who work in the fields, would have seen the massive demonstration for immigrant rights last weekend in Los Angeles as a fitting tribute.

While some see Chavez as a controversial figure even today, and his United Farm Workers union faces criticism from many quarters, there can be no denying that he was an inspirational figure who brought pride and empowerment to the Latino community.

The spirit of Cesar Chavez was alive and well in recent days, as evidenced by the rallying of hundreds of thousands of people in many parts of the country. There's no better reminder that the struggle for full rights for all has come a long way - and still has a long way to go.
