EDITORIAL HAND-WRINGING DECLINING ENROLLMENT ISN'T A BAD THING.


ANOTHER year of declining enrollment in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  Unified School ard as new schools in other neighborhoods mean fewer kids are bused in.

The result is that Valley schools will shrink shrink Vox populi noun A psychiatrist , teachers will be let go and there will be a harder push than ever to turn some schools into charters.

And this is bad ... why?

While these realities might be another headache headache

Pain in the upper portion of the head. Episodic tension headaches are the most common, usually causing mild to moderate pain on both sides. They result from sustained contraction of face and neck muscles, often due to fatigue, stress, or frustration.
 for school officials still involved in a futile attempt to fight off the mayor's takeover, it's not necessarily a bad thing for education when schools get smaller or switch to charter formats.

If anything, this situation shows that the behemoth behemoth (bē`hĭmŏth, bĭhē`–) [Heb.,=plural of beast], large, fanciful primeval monster, like Leviathan, evoking the hippopotamus mentioned in the Book of Job.  school district has a tough time responding to the immediate needs and trends of the community, which is why the district ignored climbing enrollment for decades and found itself in severe need of schools. Now that enrollment is on the move again, the LAUSD LAUSD Los Angeles Unified School District (Los Angeles, CA)  is still set in its course, building the mega schools it planned years ago.

And that's something worthy of hand-wringing.
