EDITORIAL FIELD LAB VICTORY A JUDGE CONFIRMS PLEAS THAT SITE MUST HAVE FULL CLEANUP.


ALL the current and future residents of the areas around the former Rocketdyne site won a victory Wednesday with a judge's ruling that the site must be fully cleaned up before it is safe for use.

The Department of Energy's plan had been to leave 99 percent of the contaminated contaminated,
v 1. made radioactive by the addition of small quantities of radioactive material.
2. made contaminated by adding infective or radiographic materials.
3. an infective surface or object.

The plan wasn't nearly enough to satisfy people who worried that letting the land be developed without a full toxic cleanup would endanger en·dan·ger

The Santa Susana Field Lab site is clearly not safe for use yet. And the judge was right to force a full cleanup.
