NEXT time you're in Valley Plaza, look out for Roy Romer Middle School. The outgoing LAUSD superintendent's friends on the school board decided to name a campus in the master school-builder's honor.

Next up is the Hertzberg-Davis Forensic Center -- the under-construction, city-county crime lab named for former Assembly Speaker Bob Hertzberg and ex-Gov. Gray Davis, who fought for its funding.

Our local leaders take care of their own.

If they do their job and find a way to spend taxpayer money for good or ill, they get their names put on our buildings.

Although given the way Davis left office, his new building could be the butt of jokes for years to come:

``Who's the Forensics Building named after?''

``I don't recall.''
