EDITORIAL DIM BULB GOV. DAVIS IS IN THE DARK ON ENERGY CONSERVATION.PREPARE for the onslaught of the energy police. In his bizarre energy-conservation plan, Gov. Gray Davis could have created a system of rewards and incentives - a call on Californians to come together and save power for the public and the private good. But that's not the route Davis chose. Instead, he opted for strong-arm government - unleashing the California Highway Patrol highway patrol n. A state law enforcement organization whose police officers patrol the public highways. and local sheriff's departments to play the role of power cops, dishing out warnings and $1,000 fines to businesses that are deemed to be using excessive power. Never mind that crime is on the rise - California cops will spend their late-night hours Noun 1. late-night hour - the latter part of night night, nighttime, dark - the time after sunset and before sunrise while it is dark outside time of day, hour - clock time; "the hour is getting late" counting light bulbs. Like the rest of his scheme for rescuing the state from its energy woes, Davis' conservation plan is inadequate - and out of sync Out of Sync: A Memoir is the upcoming autobiography of American pop singer Lance Bass, set to be published on October 23, 2007. It features an introduction by Marc Eliot, a New York Times with reality. Even if Davis could get his power cops to switch off every night light across the state, the utilities would still be unable to meet peak demand during the day. But for Davis, the politics of looking serious about conservation is apparently more important than realistic conservation policy. In his quest to look good rather than do good, he's putting Californians at risk. Malls, car dealerships This article is about car dealerships. For the indie pop band, see Dealership (band). A car dealership or vehicle local distribution is a business that sells new cars and/or used cars at the retail level, based on a dealership contract with an automaker or and other businesses that leave their lights on at night often do so for safety reasons - criminals seek out dark crime scenes where they're unlikely to be noticed. A darker state will be a more dangerous state - especially when scarce police resources are wasted on conservation enforcement. Davis promises that his plan will exclude lights used for safety purposes, but that's a subjective question. Who's going to decide on the appropriate level of nighttime lighting for a car dealership's parking lot - the dealer, who has millions invested in the cars, or the power cops? To end the power crisis, conservation is critical. But it needs to be real conservation that comes during peak hours peak hours npl, peak period n → horas fpl punta peak hours peak npl → heures fpl d'affluence or de pointe , as a result of higher electric rates or state-sponsored incentives. We think Californians would respond and would do their part to save power. But Davis' lights-out-for-all policy won't do any good - and it could do a lot of harm. |
