EDITORIAL DESPERATELY SEEKING LAUSD SEES WHAT IT WANTS TO SEE IN SURVEY.


WANTED: Man or woman with a plan to improve schools who can fight off the mayor's takeover attempts and keep teachers from defecting.

That's the way the want ad could read for the next L.A. school superintendent Noun 1. school superintendent - the superintendent of a school system
overseer, superintendent - a person who directs and manages an organization
 based on school officials' interpretation of a survey mailed to community leaders parents and teachers.

According to the voluntary survey, which was done as part of the search to replace Superintendent Roy Romer, no one cares about the district governance.

It's hard to dispute that. What parents and teachers and students and anyone who cares about the state of education wants is for academic achievement to improve in the classrooms of the Los Angeles Unified School District The Los Angeles Unified School District (the "LAUSD") is the largest (in terms of number of students) public school system in California and the second-largest in the United States. Only the New York City Department of Education has a larger student population. .

But that isn't going to happen to the satisfaction of anyone except the entrenched en·trench   also in·trench

 bureaucrats and the lackluster school board members.

And if improving the LAUSD LAUSD Los Angeles Unified School District (Los Angeles, CA)  means breaking it up into manageable pieces, stripping the school board of its power or mayoral control, then so be it.

Getting results is the issue, and if those in the education establishment want to take a step in the right direction, they should run an ad like this:
