EDITORIAL DAVID V. GOLIATH.

DAVID stands poised, as Goliath Goliath (gōlī`əth), in the Bible, a giant of Gath, a Philistine city, who challenged the Israelites. The young David, fortified by faith, accepted the challenge and killed him with a stone from a sling. In 2 Samuel it says that Elhanan killed Goliath, though 1 Chronicles says Elhanan killed Lahmi the brother of Goliath. beckons.

The David in this case is David Hernandez, a San Fernando Valley community activist with a passion for daunting challenges.

Goliath is the Los Angeles City Council, which used its collective guile and political force to put Measure R on the ballot and dupe DUPE - Duplicate voters into approving it -- thereby extending members' stay in office for four years.

To do so, the council ignored the city attorney's warning that the measure was unconstitutional. Members figured no one would challenge their high-priced and taxpayer-funded lawyers in court.

And if it weren't for Hernandez, they'd be right. But this David is ready to fight. To win, he'll need help covering the massive legal costs. Let's give him a hand.

Hernandez is the last line of defense against the City Council's abuses. Send your contributions to P.O. Box 3245, North Hollywood, CA 91605, or see www.termedout.com.
