But it was only a year ago when that national spotlight shone so hot that it burned. Dignitaries and reporters the world over showed up on that day, too, not to document a good time, but to record a tragedy. Simpson's skillfully playing the race card, this hate crime was another sad reminder that assembling a diverse community and uniting it are two very different tasks. Unlike past tragedies, this one has brought us closer together. That is cause to celebrate. |
