EDITORIAL AXING THE LAX PLAN MAYOR CLOSER TO FULFILLING CAMPAIGN PROMISE.

BY appointing new members ot the Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  Airport Commission, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa Antonio Ramon Villaraigosa (born Antonio (Tony) Ramon Villar, Jr. on January 23, 1953) is the mayor of Los Angeles, California. He is the first Latino mayor of Los Angeles since Cristobal Aguilar in 1872.  has taken one step closer toward fulfilling his campaign pledge to undo former Mayor James Hahn's excessive plans for LAX ``modernization.''

Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  air traffic.

His appointees expressed the same priority. One comes from a group that's sued to block the implementation of Hahn's $11 billion boondoggle boon·dog·gle   Informal

. And Villaraigosa says settlement talks in that case are under way.

LAX needs renovation and security enhancements. But L.A. doesn't need the traffic nightmare - or the cost - of Hahn's gift to well-connected unions and contractors.

Between the new commission and the settlement talks, it seems the pieces are falling into place. We can only hope that the Hahn plan will soon be terminated, as promised.
