EDITORIAL ACADEMIC HEROES HARD WORK PAYS OFF FOR VALLEY STUDENTS.


ONCE again, students from several San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley

Valley, southern California, U.S. Northwest of central Los Angeles, the valley is bounded by the San Gabriel, Santa Susana, and Santa Monica mountains and the Simi Hills.
 area schools have demonstrated what hard work can do by achieving outstanding results in academic competitions.

Top congratulations go to El Camino Real High School El Camino Real High School (also known locally as "ECR" and by some more recently as "ELCO") is a public secondary school located in the Woodland Hills district of the San Fernando Valley region of the city of Los Angeles, California.  in Woodland Hills, whose Academic Decathlon decathlon (dĭkăth`lŏn), in modern Olympic games, a contest for men held over two days and composed of 10 track-and-field events.  team won the state tournament, giving it a chance to vie for its third national title.

Local teams dominated the event in Sacramento over the weekend, and also deserve some kudos. Taft High School from Woodland Hills was third and Granada Hills High placed fourth. The team from nearby Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  High placed fifth. Students from Burbank High, Bishop Alemany and Reseda High also performed well as individuals and as teams.

Congratulations go as well to 13-year-old Sean Sabino from Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country, , who spelled his way to victory in the 18th annual Daily News Regional Spelling Bee.

In this day of cutting corners and reliance on technology, it's nice to know that students are still striving to achieve knowledge the old- fashioned way.
