EDITORIAL A GOOD SHEPHERD.LEADERSHIP isn't about political office or governmental power, but the ability to organize and inspire people to achieve ever-greater goals. And Los Angeles has known few leaders greater than the Rev. Cecil L. ``Chip'' Murray. After 27 years as pastor of Los Angeles' First AME AME - African Methodist Episcopal (Church) AME - (USN Rating) Aviation Structural Mechanic (Safety Equipment) AME - Abort Maneuver Evaluator AME - Adaptive Maintenance Effort AME - Adjustment of Model Estimates AME - Advanced Medical Electronics Corporation AME - Advanced Metal Evaporative (media) AME - Advanced Modeling Extension AME - Aeromedical Evacuation AME - Aeronautical Maintenance Engineer AME - Aerospace Management Element Church, Murray will retire Sunday. Under his tenure, Murray has seen First AME's congregation swell from 300 members to 17,300. He has led the fights against homelessness and gangs, as well as created educational and professional opportunities for his community. And in 1992, he was a voice for peace, for unity and for healing in the wake of the Rodney King riots. This is leadership. A good shepherd, Rev. Murray has served his flock - and his city - well. |
