EDITORIAL 10-7, `PAPA ALPHA'.
PHIL Aune touched the lives of thousands of people over his 47
years as the voice of the Van Nuys Airport, though many probably
didn't know it.
As air traffic controller for the world's busiest airport,
Aune was responsible for setting the course for countless aircraft and
the lives within, guiding them safely in and out of the San Fernando
Valley's airspace.
Aune retired last week at age 70, signing off for the last time.
Aune is one of many of society's members who work in relative
anonymity but are integral to the safety of so many. And for that, he
deserves a nod to his years of service. Here's thanks to Phil Aune,
and everyone else who has dedicated their lives to unglamorous, but
important, work.
