A former military instructor and test pilot, Collins was the first female pilot and first female commander of a Space Shuttle. , is guiding the shuttle Columbia on a mission to deliver the world's most powerful X-ray telescope telescope, traditionally, a system of lenses, mirrors, or both, used to gather light from a distant object and form an image of it.
