And then watch out. The rest of the world would be held hostage hostage, person held by another as a guarantee that certain actions or promises will or will not be carried out. During periods of internal turmoil, insurgents often seize hostages; recent examples include seizures of Americans and other foreigners by militants in  to the whims of Dr. Evil. Public employees could retire at younger and younger ages with full benefits while taxpayers worked long hours into their 70s and 80s to foot the bill.

It's a great plot for a diabolical plan to bring down the world. And it's only half in jest for mere sport or diversion; not in truth and reality; not in earnest.

, and voters would do well to remember the inequities and question candidates on their stances onlooking after public employee union members to the exclusion of everyone else.

Public employee unions argue that the pension fund is largely being funded by a robust stock market, and to a certain extent, that's true.

But it's also true that a greater percentage of city, county and state budgets are going to pay for employees and all their wonderful benefits, and less and less is going to pay for actual services, like paving roads, rebuilding sewers, building schools and other things that make community life better.

Taxpayers still pick up the bill for salaries for government workers. And most hard-working taxpayers don't work for Fortune 500 companies and don't receive retirement benefits that are nearly as generous as those that city, county and state workers receive.
