EDITORIAL : BALANCE SMOG CHECK II; LAWMAKERS SHOULD KILL PHONY PROGRAM.THE state Legislature A state legislature may refer to a legislative branch or body of a political subdivision in a federal system. The following legislatures exist in the following political subdivisions: The measure, AB 2795, would have restored the earlier smog check emissions inspection that has worked so well since 1990. But the bill died in committee, along with efforts to keep California's clean air program a reasonable, affordable and effective way to reduce emissions from automobile tailpipes. Smog Check II was aimed at reducing oxides of nitrogen - the chemical from vehicle emissions that turns smog brown and burns the lungs. But after nine months, vehicles still aren't being monitored for that tougher emissions standard. That hasn't prevented motorists from having to pay through the nose even though the vehicles aren't being tested under the tougher standard intended to further clean up the air. The cost of a smog check in Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region, has risen from an average of $30 to more than $50 Officials at the Bureau of Automotive Repair strongly defended the $69 million program. Why wouldn't they? Their jobs are safe and secure with Smog Check II.
