EDITORIAL : A WELL-DESERVED AWARD.


ONCE again, the spotlight Spotlight can refer to at least three types of lighting:
  • a searchlight;
  • stage lighting used in theatre to focus an audience's attention on a performer or event, known as a Followspot;
 shines on Yvonne Chan for her inspired leadership as principal of the Vaughn Next Century Learning Center in Pacoima.

Chan was one of three recipients of the ninth annual Harold W. McGraw Jr. Prize in Education, a national award for making positive, sweeping changes in American education. The award, which comes with a $25,000 cash award, was made a week ago in Washington, D.C.
