EDITORIAL; REBELS WITHOUT A CAUSE THE CONFEDERATE FLAG HAS NO PLACE IN THE SOUTHLAND.Some confused veterans think Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region, qualifies as Dixie, and therefore they're justified in trying to bring back the Confederate flag to a Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. County display. What can this group be thinking? It's a politically charged issue sure to create bitter feelings all around and one that has no relevance. This is Southern California - not the Deep South. If a group of veterans wants to fight for a cause, why not fight to get a gym reopened at the Sepulveda VA for their comrades in arms - those vets who fought in the world wars, Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf and all the little wars in between. There are a lot of worthy causes that veteran's groups could undertake that would have far more significance then trying to force the county to fly a Confederate flag over the Civic Center Mall Please discuss this issue on the talk page. .
