Raise your hand if you're sick of all the bad news, all the time. Hurricanes, wars, crime, politicians. Ugh.

Why isn't there more news about what's actually happening in our daily lives, what our families and friends are up to, what television, movies, books or restaurants we're enjoying, what happened with our kids' sports teams and what the groups we are a part of are contributing to the community.

The Daily News' new citizen journalism News and commentary from the public at large. Using wiki sites and blogs, anyone can contribute information about a current event. Also known as "collaborative citizen journalism" (CCJ), "grassroots media" and "personal publishing," the concept behind citizen journalism is that many  project is about to change all that. It's called valleynews.com. Next Monday, Aug. 21, valleynews.com will be fully operational online, part of a growing national network of citizen journalism projects called YourHub.com. The first project started in Denver a year ago and has since rolled out to Florida, Texas, Tennessee and now the Daily News.

I am a fresh arrival from the YourHub.com site in Denver that is operated by the Rocky Mountain News The Rocky Mountain News is a daily morning tabloid-format newspaper published in Denver, Colorado. It is owned by the E. W. Scripps Company. (Despite Scripps still running the paper, it's the only newspaper in the Scripps family not to have the corporate lighthouse logo on , which has had tremendous success giving readers a chance to tell their own stories and work together to build healthier communities and advertisers the ability to reach their customers in their neighborhoods.

The philosophy of citizen journalism is simple. You write the news. You take the pictures. You post events on the online events calendar. Start a blog blog, short for web log, an online, regularly updated journal or newsletter that is readily accessible to the general public by virtue of being posted on a website.  while you're at it. Post it all online at valleynews.com.

It'll be news about what you care about, written by you. Refreshing, isn't it? Keep tuning in tuning in,
