EDITEK WINS PRELIMINARY INJUNCTION ROUND IN COURT

BURLINGTON, N.C., Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- EDITEK (AMEX: EDI.EC) announced today that it was granted a preliminary injunction against Disease Detection International, Inc. (DDI) to prevent DDI's Sublicense Agreement with a third party from becoming effective. The Sublicense Agreement involved technology owned by EDITEK and previously licensed to DDI under an agreement terminated by EDITEK in June, 1988. Prior to the termination of the agreement DDI was permitted to use EDITEK's patented, proprietary technology for the development of tests to detect infectious diseases in humans and animals as well as pregnancy and ovulation in humans.
The Court's order, which is nominally a cross injunction, allows EDITEK to pursue all of its current activities utilizing the rights formerly licensed to DDI. These activities include development of one-step assays for hCG and Chlamydia, development of veterinary diagnostic products and continued discussions with Boehringer Mannheim Corporation as well as other undisclosed negotiations. The Company's action against DDI in no way involves the Company's EZ-SCREEN tests or VERDICT tests for drugs of abuse or its ongoing work under a contract with the Department of Defense.
Both EDITEK and DDI were required to post a bond as a condition for issuance of the preliminary injunctions. The purpose of the preliminary injunctions is to assure maintenance of the status quo pending arbitration which the court has ordered to be completed no later than July 16, 1993.
