ECollege's initial contract with the state was for six months, and the extension tacks on at least one more year, according to company officials. The contract extension with Illinois is a coup for eCollege as the five-year-old, Denver-based company--which is better known in the higher education ranks--continues to try to establish itself in the K-12 market.

"This extended contract reinforces IVHS' confidence in eCollege as the eLearning platform, as well as its commitment to providing online education to an increasing number of students throughout the state," says Oakleigh Thorne, chairman and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. ECollege's eClassroom division not only offers courses, but also supports faculty and students through an online help desk 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In addition, eCollege is currently organizing an effort to bring the state's teachers together to develop online curriculum that will meet the Illinois Learning Standards Learning Standards is a term used to describe standards applied to education content, particularly in the US K-12 space.
