ECR FACES UNFAMILIAR FOE.Byline: Erik Boal Special to the Daily News After four years of facing West Valley League rivals Chatsworth and Granada Hills or perennial title contender San Pedro in the City Section semifinals, the El Camino Real El Camino Real (Spanish for The Royal Road or The King's Highway) was the name of a series of pre-automobile highways linking the various New World colonies of Spain:

The Conquistadores, who have won 21 consecutive playoff games since losing to San Pedro in the 2000 semifinals, were anticipating a semifinal matchup with Hamilton last year, but San Pedro knocked off the Yankees in the quarterfinals. Hamilton avenged that defeat Thursday, ending San Pedro's run of seven consecutive trips to the semifinals with a 1-0 victory. Hamilton coach Salvador Davila said his team has been looking forward to a chance against El Camino Real since the City playoff pairings were announced Feb. 12. Judging by El Camino Real's postseason dominance - defeating No. 16 Locke 11-1 in the second round and No. 8 Taft of Woodland Hills 4-1 in the quarterfinals - Davila might be careful what he wishes for. ``It's a strange thing, how all these teams want to play us,'' Sarris said. ''I wouldn't want to play a No. 1 team if I didn't have to.'' Sixth-seeded Granada Hills also would relish an opportunity to play the Conquistadores in Saturday's championship game at East L.A. College.
