ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL: WORKSHOP ON MANAGEMENT AND OWNERSHIP SUCCESSION IN FAMILY OWNED BUSINESSES

 SEATTLE, Nov. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Two of the most difficult tasks facing family owned businesses are training the next generation of managers and providing for an orderly transition of ownership. To help address these issues, the Economic Development Council of Seattle & King County (The EDC) announced today it is sponsoring a workshop on the topic of Management and Ownership Succession in Family Owned Businesses.
 The workshop will be held in Seattle on Wednesday, Nov. 17, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Swedish club, 1920 Dexter Ave. N. The instructor for the workshop will be Bonnie Brown from the Oregon State University Family Business Program.
 Topics to be covered in the workshop include:
 -- The importance of planning and communication for management
 succession in family businesses
 -- Planning for ownership transition
 -- How to set up and run family meetings
 -- Leadership development in the family business
 -- Succession issues illustrated through use of a case study
 -- Answers to technical questions by an accountant, attorney,
 insurance specialist and trust officer
 The workshop is being co-sponsored by the Washington State Department of Community Development and First Interstate Bank of Washington. Cost of the workshop is $75 for the first family member, $50 for each additional member, with a maximum of $225 per family. The fee includes lunch and all workshop materials.
