ECO-POLL SHOWS KIDS BELIEVE IN A CLEANER, GREENER FUTURE
BURBANK, Calif., March 24 /PRNewswire/ -- In the largest survey of kids on the environment, 50 percent of the 4,381 kids, 6-14, polled, say the earth will be a cleaner, greener place in the future. The first annual Eco-Kid reader survey was conducted by Disney Adventures magazine and P3 -- The Earth-based Magazine For Kids.
If given a billion dollars to spend on the environment, 39 percent say they would use the money to save animals, 17 percent would clean the air, 15 percent would plant trees, 11 percent would clean the water, and 10 percent would invest in recycling.
When asked if they recycle at home, 91 percent said they do. Newspapers were recycled the most (64 percent), with aluminum coming in a close second (61 percent). Thirty percent said they had to remind their parents to recycle.
 Other findings:
-- 90 percent of the kids say they turn off the water when brushing their teeth
-- 88 percent shut off the lights when leaving a room
-- 61 percent use both sides of a piece of paper
-- Only 29 percent ask their parents to drive them places, most walk, bike or take public transportation
-- Only one-third say they or their school class have adopted any animals
The survey questionnaire appeared in the September issue of Disney Adventures and the fall issue of P3. Results were published in the February issue if Disney Adventures. Margin of error is plus or minus two percent.
Disney Adventures is a digest-sized monthly for children aged 7 to 14. Published by the Walt Disney Company, Disney Adventures reaches nearly three million kids with entertaining news on trends, travel, nature, sports and action, and science and technology.
