Telecom-NGTS Ltd. today announced that its I-Gate 4000 VoIP Media Gateway achieved outstanding Speech Quality test results during the 2nd ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute, Sophia Antipolis technical park, Nice, France, www.etsi.org) A non-profit membership organization founded in 1988, dedicated to standardizing information and communication technologies (ICT) throughout Europe.  (European Telecommunications Standards Institute (body) European Telecommunications Standards Institute - (ETSI) A European version of the ITU-T(?). ) VoIP Speech Quality Test Event, which took place on the ETSI premises, Sophia Antipolis, France.

The purpose of the 2nd ETSI VoIP Speech Quality Test Event was to determine the speech quality of VoIP (Voice over IP) equipment under certain IP network conditions that could deteriorate the quality of voice calls. The 2nd ETSI VoIP Speech Quality Test Event also provided an opportunity to test the different ways VoIP equipment manufacturers implemented their mechanisms to overcome the quality-affecting IP network conditions.

In the 2nd ETSI's VoIP Speech Quality Test Event, ECI Telecom-NGTS's IP-Telephony signal processing technologies, implemented in the I-Gate 4000, consistently scored excellent performance. The I-Gate 4000 achieved outstanding results in all major IP-Telephony Voice Quality parameters, including Objective Speech Quality-of-Service Assessment (Objective MOS (1) (Metal Oxide Semiconductor) See MOSFET.

The term is used in several ways, but it always refers to some offset of time and space from the norm. For example, in a network transmission, jitter would be a bit arriving either ahead or behind a standard clock cycle  Buffer, and Packet Loss Concealment Packet Loss Concealment (PLC) is a technique to mask the effects of packet loss in VoIP communications. Robust Jitter Buffer, optimal implementation of Packet Loss Concealment algorithms, precise (spectral) matching of the generated Comfort Noise to the original noise signal, and successful Echo Cancellation behavior are some of the speech quality performance characteristics that make the I-Gate 4000 a best-of-breed VoIP media gateway for operators aiming to maintain competitiveness and to capture all billable minutes, regardless of IP network characteristics and/or deployment scenario.

ETSI's Anonymized Test Report analyzed the results of the 2nd ETSI VoIP Speech Quality Test Event. This report was published during the ETSI Project Telecommunications and Internet Protocol Harmonization Over Networks (EP TIPHONTM) meeting, held in Bruges, Belgium (25 to 28 June 2002). The Anonymized Test Report is available on the ETSI Plugtest(TM) Service's Web site,

In addition to the Anonymized Test Report, each manufacturer received a report that included test results of its VoIP equipment.

The 2nd ETSI VoIP Speech Quality Test Event was organized by the Plugtests(TM) Service of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), under the European Union's eEurope Initiative, and conducted by T-Systems Nova GmbH Berkom and HEAD acoustics GmbH. Two ETSI bodies, EP TIPHON TIPHON Telecommunications Internet Protocol Harmonization Over Networks (ETSI)

Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of ECI Telecom-NGTS, comments: "We thank ETSI for hosting the professional event for speech quality test, with a key contribution of T-Systems NOVA and HEAD acoustics. The extensive evaluation of Echo Canceller, Voice Activity Detection, Silence Suppression, Comfort Noise Generation, Jitter Buffer, and Packet Loss Concealment technologies, has proven that they are the key ingredients of voice quality in VoIP networks. ETSI's second Speech Quality Test Event allowed us to demonstrate, in an objective and highly respected technology event, that our VoIP technology reaches the level of traditional TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) A technology that transmits multiple signals simultaneously over a single transmission path. Each lower-speed signal is time sliced into one high-speed transmission.  voice quality". See quote in the ETSI Press Release:
